About the show
About the performance
«Divine Comedy» — a modern reinterpretation of Dante Alighieri's poem, staged by Dmytro Zakhozhenko. This is a journey through hell, in which medieval Italy turns into modern Ukraine, and the circles of hell — into recognizable stories of our society.
In the performance, Dante makes his way through the world of gopniks, carriers, «rishals», molfars and carol singers, meeting poets, muses and ghosts of historical memory on his way. The production combines Dante's texts translated by Maksym Strikha, excerpts from the poem "Vertep" by Hrytsky Chubai, KGB interrogation protocols, and traditional Ukrainian music.
The performance was created jointly with the NGO "Art Workshop "Drabyna"" as part of the project "At the Dawn of the World" with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
