Rebellion [1991]

About the performance

"Rebellion [1991]" — a new musical and theatrical performance by the creative association MUR about the Ukrainian resistance, the path to independence and the people who became the voice of an entire era. The name comes from the Latin rebellio — «uprising», «resistance to the occupying power».

The production is a chronological continuation of the project «You [Romance]» and tells about the events that preceded the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991. At the center of the plot — figures of Vasyl Stus, Vyacheslav Chornovil, Alla Horska, Ivan Dzyuba, Ivan Svitlychny, Leonid Kravchuk and other figures of Ukrainian cultural and political resistance.

«Rebeliya» combines theater, rap, live music, poetry and modern stage form. The performance explores how freedom is born — through fear, loss, struggle and inner defiance.
