About the performance

«Earth» — a performance based on the story of the same name by Olga KobylyanskaEarth, directed by Ivan Uryvsky at the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theater. This is the story of one family, which turns into a universal parable about land, love, envy, betrayal and the destructive power of human passions.

Land in the play appears not only as a territory or inheritance, but as a symbol of roots, memory, life and the struggle for one's own identity. The production explores how the desire to own land can generate hatred, conflicts and tragedies even within a family.

The play is a kind of dialogue between Ukrainian and Lithuanian cultures. Its creation echoes the project «Žẽmė», which Ivan Uryvskyi staged at the Kaunas National Drama Theatre at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
